Redmile CofE Primary School
About Our School Redmile CofE Primary School sits unassuming in the small village of Redmile, located in the Vale of Belvoir, and in the shadow of Belvoir Castle, the seat of the Duke of Rutland. With only 60 pupils, organizing and hosting such a successful event like the Viking Challenge is no small feat and something that the staff, children and parents are immensely proud of.
As our school’s primary fund raising activity the Viking Challenge marks a major event every year in the school’s calendar. The challenge raises essential money for our school, and our chosen charity partner, through sponsorship and generous donations. Visit the school's website here.
Making a Big Difference
Our small village primary school benefits enormously from the funds raised by the Viking Challenge. In recent years, the opportunities to enrich the curriculum have been immense with weekly French, music and swimming lessons added to the weekly timetable as well as special activities such as visiting dancers and puppeteers and many school trips which just wouldn’t be possible without the money raised by the Viking Challenge.Money raised from the 2007 event has gone towards a new assault course, which was chosen by the children themselves and has just taken pride of place next to the playground.
Probably one of the most exciting initiatives is out new school hall. Completed just 8 weeks ago the hall is evidence of what the difference the Viking Challenge has made to the school. Eight years in the planning and making the hall is set to change the learning experience for the children. It will allow the children to have all year round sport and exercise as well as enjoying many experiences which until now they haven’t been able to due to lack of space.
Viking Challenge 2008 money has already been used to pay for fixtures and fittings and will help in the kitting out of the hall with sport and gym equipment.
The new school hall was officially opened by Luke Wright, Sussex and England International Cricket Player on 12th February 2009 – a former pupil of Redmile CofE Primary School - a very proud moment for all the staff, children and parents.
