The Viking Challenge - 2010 RULES

Venue: Redmile School, Main Street, Redmile Leicestershire. NG13 0GL

Event Date: Sunday 3rd October 2010

Entry Fee:
£15.00 before noon on 2nd Oct - or £20.00 on the day.
Sorry - no refunds for cancellations.
We recommend registering before the event. In the event of unexpectedly high numbers of entrants, we reserve the right to lmit numbers on the day. Fee includes first aid, rescue (only available at checkpoints, except in extreme cases); also delicious refreshments en route and at the end.

Confirmation:
On-line entry provides confirmation of payment & entry. If posting your application form & require a receipt and confirmation of entry, please include an SAE along with your entry form. Please make cheques payable to: “Viking Challenge”.

U16s:
U16 Children must be accompanied by an adult over 18yrs throughout the whole course. One adult may accompany 2 children each. (Adult's name must be written on the child's entry form.) We strongly advise U16s do the 30K route only - this is a tough off road route. Sorry, no trailer bikes.

Registration & Start Time:
Please register in the marquee between 8:00 and 10:00am, where you will receive your rider number, and be ready to start 10 minutes after you have registered.

Time Limit: 5 hours.

Route:
The description & maps will be issued at registration. Due to the closure of the Viking Way, the route will differ to last year. Two routes to choose from 50K (31 miles) & 30K ( 18.6 miles).

Retirements:
If you need to retire during the event, transport is available at checkpoints to take you back to the school. Cyclists retiring must notify Registration in the marquee that they have retired.

Equipment:
Helmets, wet weather gear and maintenance kits are recommended.

Completion:
You will be issued with a certificate at the finish.

Parking:
Free parking available close to the venue.

The Countryside Code and Highway Code:
Please read these at the venue. Riders must give way at junctions and road crossing points. Please note that Marshals have no authority to control or stop other traffic.

Supporters:
Supporters are welcome but only riders have access to the main marquee and refreshments. Sorry, no dogs allowed on school premises at any time.

Photographs:
An event photographer will be out on course taking shots as you go past. Photos can be purchased after the event: please check the VC website after the event for for links. Details will also be posted in the marquee on the day.

Prizes: £250 of sShokwave vouchers will be awarded to the over 16 rider raising the most sponsorship money.

£150 of sShokwave vouchers will be awarded to the under 16 rider the most sponsorship money.

Four Mountain Hardwear fleeces will be awarded to the team raising the most amount of sponsorship, as will the coveted Viking Challenge Team Trophy!

Prizes will be awarded a presentation day at Redmile School in Spring 2011 - date to be anounced.
